Photos
Photographs are key to creating portraits. Photographs are often the only way I get to meet my subject. A good photo will result in a good portrait. The better the quality of a photograph, and the more photographs I have to work with, the better the portrait.
The Ideal Photograph
The ideal pet photograph will have the following characteristics:
- Taken with a digital camera. If taken with a phone or tablet, avoid using the zoom feature to take the photo as this tends to pixelate the image.
- Taken at the highest resolution possible
- Taken in natural light versus using a flash.
- Taken at the subject’s eye level.
- Taken such that the subject fills the frame without cropping out body parts that you want in the image.
Submitting Photographs
When submitting photographs for a commission, please do the following:
- Identify your favourite photographs, and why.
- Identify the photographs that best represents colour of your pet.
- Identify the photographs that best represent personality and character of your pet.
- Identify the photograph that has the pose you wish to replicate.
- Send lots of photographs, the more the merrier. Send the photographs as email attachments. Depending on the size of the photographs, you may need to send multiple emails.

All supplies are artist quality. The portraits are made to last using the best materials available.
